My Little Swinging Thing

She's not really that interested in doing much else here... She could swing for hours watching all the skokie critters.

Been thinking about getting an indoor swings at home for a while now... happened upon this one from SoftLine, designed by Busk + Hertzog. Streamlined enough to double up as extra seating in the living room, and available in a fabulous array of felted color options, this sweet swing totally made me look!

ME&U Swing from Soft Line

Skokie, IL

Greetings from Skokie!

Freida and I (we had to leave DaddyFroo at home a'workin) are busy acclimating ourselves here after jetting out from Long Beach to Ohare... Loving the sunshine (though I hear the morning I left town, the rays peeked through those LA clouds and stuck around!), loving the family, and of course loving the Skokie vibe. This is the first time in a long while that all 6 of us (siblings) get to hang out at home together, and it's just lovely! I've been enjoying every minute, and looking forward to all the great times this next week will bring us. Freida is completely entranced by the beautiful Skokie backyard - she sits and swings under the trees all day!! For now we are just taking it easy, lots of water play (you got to stay cool in this humidity!), frolicking on the grass, backyard picnics, and plenty of time chilling getting to know the aunts, uncles, and cousins. I do have a few fabulous Chicagoland places/activities I'd like to check out before heading back out west, but for now I think we'll keep it simple until the sleeping schedule is back to pre-jet-lag. : )

I will be blogging and posting from here, albeit a bit more sparingly.

P.S. Check out these wicked Custom State Pillows from this new website featuring trinkets for us gals, Always Fits. This concept would make an awesome gift!!

Cheers for Chairs!

I'm such a chair-a-holic (if you haven't yet picked that up from this and that). I just have a thing for chairs. I love 'em. Retro, vintage, modern... but mostly, Mid-Century. The sheer design genius that went on in the Eames era is so astonishingly simple - and yet these seating designs have morphed into iconic symbols. Happened upon this wearable chairs concept from BRUXE; 20th Century chair charms. 10K gold pendants for the chair happy! If Aaron Basha can make shoe pendants classic, what's wrong with a little chair-jewelry-action?? Totally lovin' it!!

The line is called Tiny Little Chairs

While I'm on the hot topic, thought I'd share this beautifully revised film; the Eames Lounge Chair debut on NBC, circa 1956! Enjoy!!

Low-profile Play

If any of you mamas out share my nesting issues; you'll appreciate the concept of a good toy that blends into your home decor. I admit to being a total stickler for organization - i.e toys residing in the play room. And (unfortunately for my children)... I don't see myself wavering that often. It's great to have a nice looking toy bin (or an ottoman with storage) for stashing a few living room play things, but it's especially nice when the toys themselves don't wreak much feng shui havoc (I know, I'm psychotic). Found these wonderful foam blocks at an art store in my neighborhood, I thought they were the perfect weight and size for Freida to learn how to stack and build (to my architect-husband's delight), the fact that they were a well-designed faux bois was just a lovely bonus!

Step2 Soft & Sturdy Timber Blocks $12.71

(They seem to no longer be on the Step2 website, and they were rather difficult to track down online, so if you want some - grab 'em while they're there.)

What the Nook?!

Everyone seems to be going gaga over this crib mattress - the Pebble by Sleep Nook. Yes, the colors are hotness, and the design is superfluously eye-pleasing. But just read the write-up and weep... (It sounds like we are raising aliens: "The removable surface layer of the Nook Pebble mattress employs a patented asymmetrical design and nano-level technology to maximize breathability. Air flows in valleys between pebbles creating an oxygen-rich crib environment while surface fibers with nano-technology prevent liquids from seeping into the mattress for easy-wipe clean up." Nano what what?)

I happen to be one to cave for excessive features and bells and whistles... but this? Yeah, I loosened the baby budget belt a bit and went for an all-organic-fiber crib mattress (allergies are genetic!), but seriously who markets a mattress for $550? It's a mattress. And all that funky design (I'll give credit where it's due) will be covered up by the crib sheet!

P.S. If you're still feeling the love - buy the pebble wrap and cover your own baby mattress. : )
