Peonies on the Low-down

I've been browsing through some family photos trying to remember the table arrangement we used for last years Shavuot luncheon. Looking at these I remembered the lovely use of short-florals! I have a serious aversion to flower arrangements that inhibit cross-table conversation, and though I consider myself rather flower-happy, I'm not too keen on sticking a vase of flowers in middle of a dinner party table (no matter how beautiful they may be). Last Shavuot I sent my husband on one last errand - to Trader Joes for Peonies (I stopped going anywhere else for my flower-fix). I scavenged the house for "bud vases" landing happily on a collection of colorful espresso cups, and with just a few easy snips I placed the huge peony buds in the little cups filled with water and scattered them throughout the tables. It added an enormous amount of charm to the decor without overwhelming the setting. Simple and minimalist - I think flower buds are usually your best bet for table-top arrangements.

Sweet Little Soles

The time has come (at long last!), and Freida's overdue gross-motor skills have been bumped up to par - my 17 month old is finally walking, folks. Here begins the quest for the perfect little "first pair". With the summer month's arrival, I can't help but look to something a bit more open and airy (not to mention novel!) than a Stride Rite. Here's a little roundup of my favorites so far:

1. Saltwater Sandals

The classic summertime sandal we wore to the beach as kids.

2.  Converse Glitter Chuck Taylors

Retro styled All Stars with some girly glam, easily slips on and off.

3. Tip Toey Joeys

Made from the softest leather to protect those rapidly growing baby bones.

4. PÉPÉ Biscottos

Like Birkenstocks for babies!

5. Baby Blochs

Bochs fabulously famous ballet shoes made for your mini ballerina.

6. Gucios

My favorite pair of modern first walkers, with plenty of support.

Happiest Mothers Day!!

Shout out to all you fabulous moms out there!! Hope your Mothers Day is filled with love and happiness --- if you're spending it with a luxurious sleep-in and a complimentary breakfast in bed, or bike riding the shoreline boardwalk alongside your beautiful brood --- I hope it's just lovely! Enjoy the honorary day, it comes around but once a year... take advantage, ladies! : )

Redefining: Distracted Driving

Apparently Bugaboo thinks they have the same consumers as Apple (they are probably right). Their newest stroller accessory is an iPhone holder for your handlebar! Talk about distraction - Apple wants to offer us moms-on-go a way to text and browse while steering our brood around town. The holder turns your phone into a mini computer screen,  freeing up our hand, enabling us to text without holding the phone (or the stroller?!). Alright, I'll drop the sarcasm - I guess it is pretty awesome for listening to music on a Strollercize. (But wouldn't that be called an iPod holder....?)

Either way, the new accessory is available here.

And because I feel it's important (and somewhat connected)... for those of you who are not Oprah affluent - please, please, please check out the "distracted driving" (i.e texting while driving) tragedy statistics here.
